MISSION GREENBELT PROJECT

The Mission Greenbelt Project is working with San Francisco residents and artists to build an earth artwork of continuous sidewalk gardens that attract bees, birds & butterflies to the streetside. Permeable garden soil also absorbs rainwater, which recharges San Francisco's underground water supply and relieves the overburdened water treatment system.

The proposed route connects Mission District parks, sidewalk gardens, backyards & vacant lots between Dolores Park (19th & Dolores) and Franklin Square Park (16th & Bryant). see original map

The Mission Greenbelt Project forms an intersection between San Francisco-based movements working to improve conditions for urban wildlife (Nature in the City), produce food to sustain ourselves (Free Farm Stand) and enliven public space (PlantSF, Mission Roots, Guerrero Street Greening & Livable City).

This project works in partnership with the SF Department of Public Works Bureau of Urban Forestry and receives donated services and supplies from Sunset Scavenger Co.
