

Dance Inspired by Rodin’s Sculptures
Anna Halprin’s Sea Ranch Collective
In various locations on Angel Island, The Sea Ranch Collective performs dances choreographed by Anna Halperin.
The Sea Ranch Collective is a group of independent dance/artists. Every summer they retreat to Sea Ranch, a Northern California seacoast community, to explore the interconnectedness between dance/art and the natural environment. Some of the Sea Ranch members participating are: Alex Zendzian, Benjamin Jarrett, Lisa M. Russo, Amanda Bailey Royce, Rana Stewart, Terre Unite Parker and Iu-Hui Chua.

The Last Angel Island Duel
Katina Papson & Petrushka Bazin
Katina and Petrushka will offer a performance about power, patriarchy, hopefulness and dreams. Through interactive techniques, the performers will reconstruct the historic 1856 Angel Island duel over an escaped black slave.
Katina A. Papson is an artist/educator who is currently a graduate student at California College of the Arts. Papson directed an alternative summer arts camp for teens and has worked for several non-profit organizations. After five years of teaching art, photography, and performance at the high school level, Katina moved to San Francisco to pursue her artwork. Katina was born and raised in the Bronx, NY.
Petrushka Bazin is a visual artist using photography to explore female sexuality, class, and revolution in the Caribbean. Bazin is beginning her graduate work at California College of the Arts for Curatorial Practice.
Her images have appeared on the pages of XXL Magazine, Black: A Celebration of A Culture (Hylas Publishing, 2004), and Dancehall: The Reader (South Africa University Press, 2006). Later this year, Petrushka will present her paper, Visualizing Female Agency, at the Mid-Atlantic Popular/American Culture Association Conference in Fall 2006.
